My ten year old loves this series and read this book to himself.  This is his review.
"The Guardians of Ga'Hoole go to the northern kingdoms to gather allies for a battle against the Pure One.  The reason the book is called The Burning is because battle involves so much fire.  It is exciting and full of adventure."
Warning: violence (owls fight and die)
