We watched it as a family.
The movie combines Charles Dickens' actual life (childhood and adulthood) and his struggle to write the Christmas Carol. Through his imagination, he interacts with the characters.
Viewers will learn about Dickens' childhood and his troubling relationship with his father plus the struggles a writer endures to create a publishable piece.
I think to fully appreciate this DVD one must be familiar with The Christmas Carol and at least the titles of some of Dickens' other works. I am not sure how much the rest of my family enjoyed this movie as it was not action packed but a movie that focused on character development and the appreciation of the arts. I thoroughly enjoyed it, though!
Warnings: language (bloody, *ss,) characters are drunk a couple of times/seen drinking alcohol, Dickens' father resorts to shady behavior to earn money/dysfunctional family relationships
