Firemouse by Nina Barbaresi

When Mack the mouse's home (in the Auto Body Shop in Brooklyn, NY) burns down he wonders where he will reside.  To escape the flames he dashes to a firetruck.  He soon finds himself at the firehouse where a whole crew of mice welcomes him.  Eventually Mack convinces the other mice to train as firemen.  Their training and skills become vital when Suspenders, the firehouse cat, causes a fire.
All the mice names have a special meaning in firefighting.  The author identifies their meanings at the end.
Warning: Suspenders, the cat, states that their idea of training to be firemice is the "dumbest idea" he has ever heard.  I do not like using that word-especially to younger children.
