Amazing Grace-The Story Behind the Song by Jim Haskins*

Mr. Haskins shares John Newton's life story in an engaging manner, beginning with his early childhood until his death.  He highlights the major events in his life and how they affected him as a person.  Each short chapter begins with a verse from his famous song, Amazing Grace.
A short book that can be read to younger children and not bore them.  I read one to two chapters aloud a night to my boys.
Details about how the slave trade functioned are included ( I would include the biographies of John Newton and William Wilberforce while studying slavery in the United States).
