The Big Picture Story Bible by David R. Helm illustrated by Gail Schoonmaker*

In Gospel-Centered Teaching Trevin Wax  recommends reading the Bible chronologically each year to maintain our focus on the "big story" with Christ as the center and the Hero. He lists suggestions. One of them was this book for children. I read through it over one week for my Bible reading. Mr. Helm shares God's story in chronological order with continual reminders that God is King and that we need a Savoir. Each story points to Christ. Mr. Helm does an excellent job of selecting which stories to include and of summarizing the main points. He also engages the reader with age-appropriate probing questions. The only downside was Caucasian-heavy illustrations. People from that region were probably not fair-skinned. 

This may be a book I am giving to young parents when they have their first child.

The Action Bible God's Redemptive Story illustrated by Sergio Cariello General Editor Doug Mauss*

I gave this Action Bible to my now eight year old son one and a half years ago for Christmas after a good friend of mine recommended it.
My boys loved when I read this Bible aloud and would beg for one more story.
When I had a long term sub position teaching 5th grade recently, I brought this into my classroom for kids to read at their leisure.  It was rarely left on the display table where I had placed it.  Usually a student was reading it.
The stories are accurate and are not simplified. 
**Highly, highly recommend (especially for boys and reluctant readers).

The Biggest Story by Kevin Deyoung illustrated by Don Clark

How the Snake Crusher Brings Us Back to the Garden
Mr. Deyoung shares the story of God and His wisdom from the Garden of Eden to the gift of the Holy Spirit in ten chapters.  He does not go into details for each story but provides a brief overview and the story's impact.
The illustrations are vivid and bold.
I read this aloud to my two sons ages 8 and 11 years old.  My 8 year old especially liked it.

Words to Dream on by Diane Stortz illustrated by Diane Le Feyer *

A perfect Bible Story collection to read to toddlers and preschoolers.
Each entry has a focused verse, a main story from chapters in the Bible, a prayer and a key point.
Sweet illustrations.

The Ology by Marty Machowski illustrated by Andy McGuire*

Ancient Truths Ever New
This book studies the basic beliefs of Christianity.  Topics it covers-God, people, sin, promise/law, Christ, Holy Spirit, adoption into God's family, change, church, end times, and God's Word.
The more difficult theology concepts are explained with analogies.
Beautiful illustrations support the text and take the reader to deeper understanding.

My Best-Ever Book of Bible Stories by Phil A. Smouse

Through humorous rhymes, Mr. Smouse shares seventeen Bible stories.
As I read them aloud, I found some stories rather long and drawn-out.  He also incorporated objects and concepts not relevant to that time period . . . but I guess that made it humorous?!
My boys seemed to like the stories.  I, however, like our other collections better.
Recommended for preschoolers and for beginning readers.

The Children's Illustrated Bible retold by Selina Hastings illustrated by Eric Thomas*

I read reviews on this Bible that the print/font was too small.
My son and I have read through this Bible two times now and have not found the font to be a problem.  The beautiful illustrations and photographs make the stories come alive.  There are also historical sections explaining how life was during that specific Bible time period.
Text features: contents, photographs, maps, picture captions, index, "who's who in the Bible section

The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones illustrated by Jago*

I love how this Bible storybook centers on Christ from the beginning-literally at Creation.  Each story is told how God's plan was in motion and focuses on God's love for all of humanity.
Stories are told in a very descriptive, dramatic format.
