The Real Poop on Pigeons! a toon book by Kevin McCloskey

A gentleman settles on a bench next a woman in a park where he declares his annoyance towards pigeons.  Suddenly children appear dressed as pigeons and throughout the rest of the book they share interesting facts about pigeons.  By the end of the book the gentleman's view of pigeons has been transformed.  Then he makes a comment about squirrels . . . .hmmm. . . a foreshadowing of another book?!
I liked Mr. McCloskey's first book about worms better.

Through cartoon-like illustrations, readers learn about worms.
I love how he drew on paper bags for the illustrations.
**Highly recommend.

Two sisters are excited about Saturday.  The falling rain does not dampen (no pun intended) the older sister's resolve to have fun.
A sweet story.
*Highly recommend.

Jack and the Box by Art Spiegelman*

A Toon book
Perfect for reluctant readers, transitional readers and beginning readers.
Jack's parents give him a box which is really a ZACK  in the box.
Humorous interactions between Jack and Zack will keep readers entertained and laughing.
Points to discuss: I found Zack a bit creepy but my boys were fine with him.

Barry's Best Buddy by Renee French*

A Toon book perfect for reluctant readers, beginning readers and transitional readers.
Barry's best friend, Polarhog, plans a surprise for him.  It is fun to see the ants scurrying over the pages and to discover their destination.
*Highly recommend.

A Trip to the Bottom of the World with Mouse by Frank Viva*

Mouse travels to Antarctica and longs to return home.
Perfect for beginning readers, transitional readers and reluctant readers.
The reader does learn a bit about Antarctica too!

Mouse puts much effort into getting dressed for a trip to the barn.
Funny!
Very simple-good for beginning readers-good picture support.

Benny and Penny in the Big No-No! by Geoffrey Hayes

A Toon book
Great suspense and humor in comic style.  The mice and mole are adorably drawn.
A good choice for reluctant readers.
Benny and Penny wonder who their new neighbor is  and are shocked to see that he/she took Benny's pail.  As they try to retrieve it, they meet the new neighbor in an unconventional manner.
I did not like how Benny said, "dumb girls" and how they call each other "cry baby" a few times.

My seven year old enjoyed reading this book a lot!
