Audacity Jones to the Rescue by Kirby Larson*

When the Commodore Crutchfield (a benefactor) arrives at Miss Maisie's School for Wayward Girls, he does not bring his usual large donation check.  Instead he is requesting the assistance of one of the girls, to help him with an important mission at the White House.
Audacity Jones knows she is the one to answer his call and is whisked away in his robin blue new car, leaving Swayzee, Indiana.
As the days unfold, Audacity realizes that the Commodore is not who he says he is and his mission is beginning to appear a bit nefarious.  Using her knowledge from the days spent in the Punishment Room (the library! Miss Maisie hates books and learning), Audacity manages to save a member of President Taft's  family and make lots of new friends (but of course, keeping the old friends!).
A delightful, clever read!
Book #1 in a new series.
Strategies: check for understanding (chapters switch between many different character's point of view-even a cat!!), vocab. development/word choice (a surfeit of new words!)
**Highly, highly recommend.
*Borrowed from the library.
