The First Step-How One Girl Put Segregation on Trial by Susan E. Goodman illustrated by E. B. Lewis

This book recounts the trial concerning Sarah Roberts, an African American girl who was removed from a Boston school and informed that she would have to trek a far distance to attend an all black school.  Although the judge did not rule in her favor, her advocates begin the movement for equality in education.
