A boy's grandfather tells the story about how the schooner, Rouse Simmons, that delivers Christmas trees each year to Chicago becomes entangled in a raging storm on Lake Michigan. The schooner and its crew sink, with no survivors. The people of Chicago think they will never see the Christmas Tree Ship again. Imagine their surprise when the captain's wife and daughters endure the voyage to deliver the trees the following year!
