Little Cat's Luck by Marion Dane Bauer*

My eight year old and I read this together for reading.
This sweet novel in verse shares the story of Patches, a cat, who longs for a special place just for her.  When a screen is loosen, she escapes outside to find that place.  As she searches for her special place,  she encounters interesting creatures and the meanest dog in town, Gus.
Then something occurs that surprises her and takes her to a whole new level of living!
Although Gus is a dog, the reader  can infer that maybe people who are mean may just be lonely and need a friend.
*Highly recommend.
-We own this book.
Examples of figurative language and concrete poetry abound!
My eight year old loved this book.  Initially he did not think it was very exciting but as we progressed, his enthusiasm increased.  One day we read over for an hour because he wanted to keep reading it!
Beware: Patches gives birth which is described.
