A Math Adventure
The author takes great liberty in telling the story of Pythagoras as a child which she states at the end of the book. He was not alive when Alexandria was capital of Egypt and never saw the lighthouse there.
She, however, explains the Pythagorean theorem in a context that will appeal to students.
Pythagoras travels with his merchant father to Egypt where he encounters a builder who shares his knotted-rope trick in making right triangles. With this new knowledge, Pythagoras solves a few building problems at home and helping his father travel to Crete faster.
*Highly recommend.
-I own this book.
