William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night Retold by Bruce Coville illustrated by Tim Raglin*

In preparation for our Shakespeare study next year, I am trying to read a few Shakespeare books ahead of time since I am not really knowledgeable about his works.
Twin siblings, Viola and Sebastian, are in a shipwreck and separated.  Each twin thinks the other one is dead.  In order to enter Duke Orsino's court, Viola disguises herself as a man named "Cesario" and sets off to entertain him with her music.  The Duke Orsino is in love with Olivia, a noblewoman who will not pay heed to any of his declarations of love.  Soon Orsino has "Cesario" appealing to Olivia on his behalf.  But Olivia finds herself falling in love with "Cesario" and "Cesario" is really in love with Duke Orsino!!
Other comical mishaps occur along the way.
My ten year old saw this book lying around, picked it up and read it.  He declared it was sort of confusing and had a lot marriage in it! 😊
A perfect book to introduce Shakespeare.  Mr. Coville has also retold Romeo and Juliet, MacBeth, and A Midsummer's Night.
Strategies: check understanding/monitor/back up and reread
*Highly recommend.
-Borrowed from the library.
Points to discuss: one of the characters is a drunk; lots of drinking;  girl falling in love with a girl (but she thinks the girl is a man!)
