Freedom in Congo Square by Carole Boston Weatherford illustrated by R. Gregory Christie

Award winner- Caldecott Honor
In rhyming text, the author relates how the people of African heritage would be anticipating Sunday afternoon which was their time off from work and obligation.  On this day the people would gather in Congo Square to dance, sing and make music.  Jazz was born in Congo Square.
The artwork is expressive and complements and enhances the words.
