Over the River and Through the Wood by Linda Ashman illustrated by Kim Smith

"A Holiday Adventure"
A modern version of the famous poem.
I loved this new take on the familiar poem but morally had one issue (see warning).
The grandparents send an invitation to their four children and their families asking them to come to their house for holidays.  The four families are scattered around the country and represent diverse families (biracial, adopted. 2 male parents)
The modes of transportation each family unit takes varies greatly-a car, subway/train, plane, ferry/hot air balloon-all which break down.  Fortunately, a man with his horse drawn sleigh comes to each family's rescue and finishes up the journey to "grandmother's house".
Rhyming text.
Borrowed from the library.
Warning: The illustrations depict a family comprising of two male parents.  The words do not say anything about this union and this family.  Subtle but there.
