Gregory lives in a household containing family members who love math and who are math geniuses. He does not and is not. He loves writing and poetry. He shares this passion only with his best friend Kelly and English teacher. Then his math teacher, Mr. Davis, meets with his parents to inform that Gregory is in danger of failing his math class. As a result, Gregory must complete extra math assignments and possibly attend Math is Magic Camp. Gregory also foolishly states that he is competing in the annual City Math competition (which his father won each time he entered as a boy and which his older brother "O" wins every year).
Mr. Davis proves to be more of an ally and actually fosters his love of writing and poetry through math.
A book that celebrates being true to who you are.
Fun word play with "fib" and Fibonacci; pi and pie.
*Highly recommend.
-Borrowed from the library
Point to discuss: To avoid trouble and disappointing his parents and Kelly, Gregory tells some lies aka "fibs". (He does tell the truth later in the book.)
