The Wish Tree by Kylo Maclear illustrated by Chris Turnham

Despite discouragement from his siblings, Charles sets out to find a wish tree one wintry day.  He and his sled ("Boggan") enter the woods with high hopes and help many critters along the way. Just when disappointment threatens to settle into his spirit, the critters he helped all day lead him to the wish tree and something greater-friendship.
