Waynetta and the Cornstalk by Helen Ketteman illustrated by Diane Greenseid

Waynetta must sell their longhorn because she and her mother are suffering from the drought in Texas.  Along the way she meets a man who convinces her to trade her longhorn for magic corn.  When she comes home, her mother, of course, throws the corn out the window.  In the morning Waynetta climbs a gigantic corn stalk to find a giant ranch sprawling in the clouds.  The giant has a magic longhorn (which poops out gold cowpatties!), a magic lariat, and a magic bucket.
A different nicer ending than the traditional tale.
-Borrowed from the library.
