Little tree does not want to let go of his leaves. As a result, he does not grow like the surrounding trees. When he realizes no sunlight is reaching him way down low, he lets go of his leaves, even though he is afraid and immediately grows.
A discussion could follow about sometimes change is scary but necessary for us to grow into a mature individual.
